Are you having trouble trying to improve your sim racing skills through sim racing, then you have came to the right place. Sim racing is how gamers learn and study the fundamentals of realistic racing. Not only does sim racing can be fun, but at times for a beginner can be frustrating.
I know firsthand how troublesome sim racing can be, when it comes to trying to overcome those tough racing hurdles, when you follow these steps, you will be well on your way of mastering your sim racing skills and on becoming a more consistent driver.
Use driving assist
This is the most important part that every amateur using a racing sim should do. No matter how well you drive, you’re better off using the driving assist.
Why use the driving assist you might ask?
Well, when you turn off the driving assist, it will become extremely difficult to drive and nearly impossible to control a car.
Even the slightest movements can cause your car to lose control easily. I know from experience, how disastrous driving can be when all of the assist are turned off and the results aren’t good.
So, the more you use driving assist the better you’ll understand how well your car drives and handles throughout a race.
Familiarize yourself with each race
Before you can become a more skilled sim racer, you must first, get familiar with each race track that you’ll be racing on, when you take the time to get to know each corner and turn, you will have a better understanding of what mistakes not to make.
Just like the song “getting to know you”, it can really help you familiarize yourself with of what the racecourse has to offer New racecourses are very unpredictable and you never know what to expect.
Try doing practice sessions and learning as much about any unknown track as much as possible, that way you know what moves to make and chances to take. If you are feeling uncomfortable racing on a race track that seems too tough, I would strongly recommend doing practice sessions before going in an actual race.
Practice makes perfect, and when you’re ready to take on an unfamiliar race track, you’ll have a much clearer picture of what to expect.
Be Consistent
Another way to improve your racing skills is to be consistent in all of your races. When you are being consistent in your driving, you are racing with precision and intelligence. Just the slightest accuracy in your driving can lead you to on becoming a more consistent racer.
Consistency is key to mastering your racing skills on any realistic racing sims, that will result in you perfecting your racing craft. You don’t have to drive perfectly to get better in sim racing. Just by being consistent in your driving, you will see significant results of your skills in long run.
Push it to the limit
Probably the last thing that you would expect when trying to improve your skills through sim racing. Learning to push your car to the limit means you learn to take risks, and learning to take risks leads to knowing the car you drive limits.
Driving on any tough race track can be tricky, but when you push it to the limit, you’ll be able to overcome the doubts about how hard your car can go.
Pushing a car to its limits can lead you to being more confident driver.
More confidence = more execution in your racing skills.
So, if you are feeling like taking a bit of a gamble of a challenging race can be then go for it, because overcoming racing challenges leads to racing glory.
Take one race at a time
No race will ever be easy, and that’s why it’s best to take it one race at a time. One race is all that takes when it comes to learning about every straight and turn of a virtual race track. Learning from one race to another can improve your chances of being a more intelligent driver.
Think of it as taking small steps, with each race, you’ll learn more about each race track the next time that you make a revisit.
Taking one race at a time is all what really matters, when it comes to making improvements on the way you drive and how well you drive.
Learn from your mistakes
To really improve your racing skills when using racing simulators, or any racing game for that matter is to know what you did wrong, and to learn from them. Learning from your mistakes is a great way to improve your skills, and master the racing mechanics on the virtual asphalt.
Even, a gamer like me still makes mistakes and learns from them. Whenever, it’s over steering a corner that can lead to running off the race track, or crashing out accidentally against another AI racer. When you learn from your mistakes, you’ll be one race closer to becoming a more improved racer.
The more you learn from your racing mishaps, the better you get, and the better you get, and the more skilled racer you will become.
To Sum It Up
For beginners and amateurs looking to improve their sim racing skills, it all starts with using the driving assist that can help you maintain control of the car you’ll be driving.
Next, is familiarizing yourself with any new race track that you are very unfamiliar with and learning as much about it the next time you revisit. Also, don’t hesitate to push your car to its limits to really give yourself a confidence booster in your driving.
Plus, with every new race, you must take it one race at a time. One race is all it takes to fully understand on how well you perform.
Finally, with every race comes with mistakes, when you learn from your mistakes you’ll be able to correct your driving which will lead to improvement in your racing performance.
It’s okay to make mistakes, everyone does it. Don’t let racing mishaps stop you from mastering your racing skills and on becoming the racer you’ll aim to be.
There you have it sim racers, just by following these steps you’ll be well on your way of dominating the virtual asphalt.
Do you have any thoughts or questions about your experiences with sim racing?
If so, let me know in the comments and give your thoughts about the experience.
My first experience was not very good. But from now on, I will focus on using the driving assist to maintain control. I am excited to give it a second try. I also know how important it is to get familiarized with the track that we will be racing in. I hope to have better luck next time!
Using the driving assist helps a lot and know many will agree. Wishing you all the best in your racing experiences 🙂
Hi Terence, Sim racing is vastly inexpensive and it’s a more efficient way to spend your time. Sim racing is a big business nowadays and it attracts large numbers of very talented drivers. Sim racing participants are sponsored and paid competitive salaries to compete.
If you can get a good sim racing setup and improve your racing skills, you can quickly and easily go and participate in a life-like racing environment, with little more than the initial setup cost to bear. Many people still have an ‘arcade’ mentality when they play sim racing but by applying yourself seriously to sim racing, you can learn one of the most vital skills in racing – consistency.
In my opinion, if you want to improve your racing skills, you need to give your concentration a workout. If you drive for over 40 minutes, your concentration usually goes down. If you do enough sim racing then you’re going to get good at managing your concentration. Just make sure you’re in the zone all the time is a big part of sim racing and that’s just a good way of getting focus for the races.
Thanks for sharing your information. Yes, sim racing does take a lot of concentration and if not careful can be easily lost.
Thanks for the comment 🙂
As a complete beginner at sim racing, it was very helpful to come across this post. What is driving assist? Is it a bit like power steering in a real car, where without it, it is very difficult and heavy to turn the steering wheel? Is driving assist something that comes with a game, or should I purchase it as an add-on?
I am sure I will be making many mistakes, but will learn from it. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, a driving assist does help with steering and you don’t have to purchase one. Driving assist is a feature in many sim racing games that you can use right on the game.
Glad you enjoyed the post.
Wishing you all the best! 🙂
I agree it’s tough to be an excellent sim racer if you don’t have the right tools and skills.
Racing games can be fun, but it gets boring when you keep losing races. I know there is more out there in racing than being a casual gamer like me.
Thank you for highlighting these 2 important points
The best way to improve driving skills is by using a driving assist feature to help beginners learn how to control their cars. Also, familiarizing with any new track will boost confidence next time you are on the track again,
This will be useful to me.
Cheers
Robin
I’m glad you are enjoying the racing genre. Driving assist is the best way to go when getting better. Thanks for the comment. 🙂
I see your post pic, the first thought that comes to mind is my 12-year-old son would love this! He is into gaming big time. I promised I’ll get more into gaming because it’s important to share each other’s interests. So, thanks to your post today, I am making some effort, thank you for the great informative post. Helps me a lot today.
I like the racing games the most, but my racing skills are terrible. I keep smashing into stuff and going off the road a lot, almost impossible to control my car. It is so much easier driving a real car. I like the idea of using a driving assist.
In other words, by being consistent, do you mean to practice a lot? The same with pushing the limits, you have to put in a lot of exercises too. Then with familiarize yourself with the tract, also practice a lot.
What I get from your post is to practice to perfection, and to use driving assist. Thank you so much for a great post, and for so much helpful information. Next time my son and I play a racing game, I’ll be so much better, less frustrating for him, and more enjoyable for us both. You’ve helped us a lot today. Thank you.
I’m glad your son likes racing games. Using the driving assist can definitely ease the frustration of going off track. Practicing a lot does help.
I am glad you enjoyed my post. All the best to you and your son 🙂
